The father of Victor Wanyama has said the Celtic midfielder will make a decision on his future in the next few days.
Wanyama has been targeted by Saints this summer, with the club having had a £12m bid accepted by the Scottish champions.
However, talks with the player and his representatives over personal terms broke down more than three weeks ago.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has since stated his belief that a move to Saints would be a good one for the 22-year-old.
However, the deterioration in negotiations would appear to make resurrecting a deal difficult.
Saints aren’t the only club to have made a move for Wanyama, with Premier League new boys Cardiff having also submitted a bid in excess of £10m.
The Kenyan international’s dad, Noah Wanyama, insisted his son will soon decide where his future lies.
He said: “My son will make a sober decision. Be patient, he will make a decision in the coming days.
“I have talked to him and, while I am not going to interfere in any way with his decision about his future, it is my place to advise him.
“But I make it a point never to interfere with my sons’ professional affairs. They are mature enough to make sensible decisions.”
