Internacional have turned down a bid from Napoli for striker Leandro Damião, who has been attracting interest from Saints this summer.
The Brazilian club’s director of football, Luís César Souto de Moura, said they had received a £15.5m offer for the player from the Italian side, but immediately rejected it.
Brazil international Damião has been linked with moves to a number of clubs, including Saints, with Mauricio Pochettino confirming recently that he was on their radar.
But Napoli’s bid is the first firm offer that Internacional say they have received, insisting it is well below the player’s value.
Moura said: “We received an €18million verbal offer from Napoli, according to the player's agent. We don't accept that this is Leandro Damiao's value. We are certain he will play the 2014 World Cup with Brazil's national team. We have not had any talks about setting a value as we don't intend to sell the player."
