Former Saints star Marian Pahars has been appointed head coach of the Latvia national team.
The 36-year-old had been in charge of the under-21 side since the start of the year, but now replaces Aleksandrs Starkovs, who has resigned.
His appointment was confirmed at a meeting of the Latvian Football Federation's board today.
Pahars, who had coached Skonto FC for two years before moving to the LFF, played for Saints from 1999 until 2006, making 156 appearances and scoring 45 goals.
Coming soon in the Daily Echo: An in-depth interview with Marian Pahars on his time at Saints and his subsequent coaching career.
