EASTLEIGH have added another quality attacking player to their ranks ahead of Saturday's home friendly against Aldershot Town (3pm).
Manager Richard Hill has swooped for former Hereford United and Forest Green Rovers forward Stuart Fleetwood following his release from Luton Town.
With a couple of other clubs on Fleetwood’s trail, Hill had to bide his time before making the 27-year-old Welshman his sixth summer signing, having already brought Jamie Collins, Will Evans, Yemi Odubade, Ben Strevens and Sam Wilson into the fold.
He explained: “I’d been after a left-sided player and it looked likely we’d sign Stuart, but he’d made promises to other clubs in the Conference which he wanted to keep, albeit that they were a little bit further north, and I respect him for sticking to his word and also being honest with me.
“I turned my interest towards another couple of left-sided players, but it then became evident that 'Fleets' didn’t want to move up north and he made it known to me through (defender) Chris Todd that he would be delighted to sign for us.”
Fleetwood, who has penned a one-year deal, is well known to Eastleigh fans having featured in - and scored for - the Forest Green side that wrecked the Spitfires’ hopes of reaching the FA Cup first round proper in 2007/08.
