CHERRIES are set to honour Ted MacDougall by naming the new South Stand after the club’s legendary striker.
MacDougall – whose goals helped Saints win promotion to the top flight in 1977/78 – has been invited to cut the ribbon on the facility ahead of Cherries’ prestigious friendly against Spanish giants Real Madrid at Dean Court tomorrow.
Currently in England planning a tour for his American-based soccer school, MacDougall, right, was Cherries’ leading marksman in three successive seasons, firing the club to promotion in 1971 when he netted 42 times in Division Four.
The idea was the brainchild of Cherries chairman Eddie Mitch-ell, who confirmed the stand would continue to be named after MacDougall even if it were to be replaced by a bigger structure.
MacDougall, who scored 144 goals in 223 appearances during two spells with Cherries, is expected to open the stand at around 6pm.
