YEMI Odubade scored on his league debut as the Spitfires got off to a winning start in the Skrill Conference South.
Odubade, a close-season arrival from Gateshead, tapped home a 26th-minute winner to edge a tight game against Sutton United 1-0 at the Silverlake Stadium.
“It’s always pleasing to win,” said satisfied Eastleigh boss Hill, who leads his side to Bath City on Tuesday.
“We started very, very well and, had we gone in two up at half-time, I don’t think there would have been any complaints.
“Perhaps we should have killed the game off earlier, but Paul (Sutton’s former Eastleigh boss Doswell) had done his homework on us by watching us several times in pre-season which shows the importance they put on this game."
Conference South new boys Gosport Borough gave last season’s beaten play-off finalists Dover Athletic a run for their money at Privett Park.
But Alex Pike’s men were narrowly beaten 1-0 on their Step 2 baptism by a 58th-minute goal from Dover skipper Craig Stone.
On Tuesday Gosport travel to Basingstoke Town, who kicked their season off with a 2-1 win at divisional newcomers Concord Rangers thanks to goals by Kezie Ibe and Jay Gasson.
Havant & Waterlooville held one of the title favourites Ebbsfleet 0-0 in Kent.
