HULL boss Phil Brown has claimed that Saints boss George Burley has told him David Prutton IS available for transfer.
Burley has told the Daily Echo that he is keen to keep Prutton during the current transfer window.
But Brown today told the Hull Daily Mail: "George (Burley) has said the player is available for transfer because he's in the same situation as Craig Fagan (Hull stiker who has just joined Derby County) where his contract is up.
"They are looking to recoup some of the money that they paid for him.
"As a former England under-21 player, he is the type of player that you would be interested in to hopefully take the club to the next level.
"Because of that, we are looking at discussions with Southampton".
Prutton, 25, was born in Hull and his parents still live in the city.
