Andrew Surman is aiming to make it a second Premier League promotion – this time with Bournemouth.
The former Saints Academy product, who played 146 times for the club before moving to Wolves for £1.2m in 2009, has already won one top flight elevation with Norwich.
Now he is trying to achieve an even more remarkable feat by getting the Cherries into the Premier League.
Surman has played 34 times this season during a loan spell at Bournemouth from Norwich with Eddie Howe’s side making a charge for the top six. The Cherries were mid-table until picking up eight wins from their last ten games.
Howe has called on his side to “seize the moment” after a relentless attacking display saw them close the gap on fifth-placed Reading to just two points in the hunt for a shock Championship play-off place.
Their eye-catching victory on Tuesday left a sold-out Dean Court dreaming of the most unlikely of play-off spots.
“I can believe we are here as I’ve seen how hard the lads have worked,” Howe said.
“We didn’t expect it but why not seize the moment and see where we can go?
“I know people will talk about the play-offs and I’m not stupid, I can see how many points we have and where we are in the league but it is in Reading’s hands. If they win their five games, they are in it.”
Howe – bidding to oversee a third Cherries promotion in five amazing seasons – added of the win against Nigel Adkins’ Royals: “It was an incredibly hard-working performance, probably the quickest game we’ve played in this year.
“I was absolutely delighted with how hard our players worked.”
