Former Saints striker Kenwyne Jones is a doubt to be fit for Cardiff as they travel to St Mary's tomorrow.
Jones took a blow to the kidneys during last weekend's 3-0 home defeat against Crystal Palace.
Cardiff will be without winger Craig Noone.
Noone is set to miss the rest of this season due to an abdominal injury, and is due to see a specialist in the United States about the problem.
Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, meanwhile, confirmed that Peter Whittingham would start this weekend as the Welsh club target crucial points in their fight against relegation.
