Some cracking undulate rays have been recorded from Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight.
Liam Stenning, 14, landed a 17lb 9.5oz fish which, after weighing, was released alive, writes CHRIS CLARK. Ben Wheeler, 13, recorded an undulate of 12lb 3oz while Rob Bennett landed a fish of 16lb 15.5oz. Black bream have also been taken from the area along with plaice, turbot and pollack.
l A good variety of species – including pout, dogfish, whiting, flounders, pollack, smoothhound and rockling – were recorded during the Rovers Tackle monthly midweek catch & release open held at Stokes Bay.
Pete Farrell won the longest fish category with a 54cm dogfish, followed by Mick Amos (52cm smoothhound). The total length category was won by Lee Shepherd (360cm) ahead of Pete Farrell (328cm).
The next match in the pegged open series will also be held at Stokes Bay on May 29 with fishing from 8pm to 8.30pm. Tickets are £7 inclusive of pools. Details from 01329-220354. l The action was far from good for the 40 competitors during a Samalite League fixture held at Abbotsbury.
Just a few dogfish, plaice, pout, whiting and dabs were recorded in fairly poor conditions.
The heaviest fish was a 1lb 10oz dogfish recorded by Rob Marshall. Results: 1st Dave Chidzoy 3lb 10oz, 2nd Rob Marshall 2lb 2oz, 3rd Ollie Hopkins 1lb 3oz, 4th Ben Bradstock 8oz. B Zone 1st Darren Gregory 6oz, 2nd Dave Lane 5oz, 3rd Darren Stevens 4.5oz, =4th Chris Snow & Dave Wright 4oz.
l The next match in the pegged open series will be held at Hive Beach on May 3 with fishing from 7pm to midnight.

Details from Dave Lane (07977132951). l Bells of Hythe are staging a 45-peg catch & release open shore competition along the Gypsy Lane section at Lepe on Sunday (fishing from 4.30pm to 8.30pm). l The 42nd annual Chesil Beach Championship, which has a £225 top prize, takes place on April 27 with fishing from 11am to 5pm. There will also be a £50 prize for the top lady and a £25 voucher for the top junior. Tickets are £10 plus a £5 pool. Details from Steve Fowles (01297-443533).
l Ford Sports SAC have been supporting the Naomi House charity since 1996 and have raised over £30,000 for it.
Their latest open shore competition held at Southampton’s Weston Shore, in conjunction with the Meon Valley Lions charity, raised £1,250.
A cheque was presented to Sarah Hudson, the area fundraiser from Naomi House.
