Roy Hodgson’s left back dilemma has not got any easier following Saints’ 2-0 win over Everton.
The England manager watched the game from the St Mary’s director’s box just over two weeks before he names his squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
Amongst other possible internationals he was able to see left backs Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw up against each other.
After the game, Mauricio Pochettino was complimentary of both players and sympathised with the decision Hodgson has to make with Chelsea’s Ashley Cole also in the mix.
He said: “Baines in general is an amazing player, a truly outstanding player.
“Luke Shaw is still a young player, a player that is still in development, still growing, but also a player of outstanding talent.
“I’m sure that is going to be a very difficult decision for Roy Hodgson.”
