Brockenhurst are one win away from lifting the British Colleges Cup for the second consecutive season.
They beat Weston-Super-Mare 2-0 this week to tee up a cup final date against Gateshead at the FA’s plush St George’s Park complex on Thursday.
Both the Brock goals came in the first half.
Jack Hoey opened the scoring midway through the first half, finding space inside the penalty area following good work down the left by Rhys Owen and Josh Buck, the latter squaring the ball back from the by-line for the arriving Hoey to side foot past the Weston ‘keeper from 12 yards into the bottom right of the net.
Brock doubled their lead five minutes before the break when an outswinging Rhys Owen corner was met by the head of skipper Tony Rolls, whose bullet header nestled into the top left stanchion of the goal, agonisingly out of the reach of the full stretch of the Weston goalkeeper.
Whilst Brockenhurst dominated the opening 45 minutes, the second half was a competitively contested period, with Weston developing a greater share of the possession but unable to convert into any real purposeful efforts on George Wheeler’s goal.
Brockenhurst had chances to extend their lead through Jamie Betteridge and Connor Doe but the former’s header crashed back off of the crossbar and the latter’s drew a fantastic one handed save from the home keeper to push over and behind for a corner.
Brockenhurst weathered some late pressure as Weston, with a last roll of the dice, began to probe with some direct balls into the penalty area but these were dealt with by a composed and controlled Wheeler and an assured and resolute Brock back four.
