Rudi Skacel wants to improve his goalscoring record to boost Saints' chances of automatic promotion.

The Czech arrived in the summer with a big reputation after netting 16 in 35 appearances for Hearts.

But despite having more shots on target than any other Championship midfielder this season, he has only bagged three goals from 27 league outings since his £1.6m move south.

He netted the first of those goals in the 3-2 win against Burnley at Turf Moor four months ago and, after failing to score in his last seven appearances, is hoping to get back on the scoresheet against the same opponents at St Mary's tomorrow.

The 27-year-old said: "I'm surprised I haven't scored more but firstly it's important you play well for success for the team.

"I scored a goal against Burnley earlier in the season, it was my first for the club but that was a long, long time ago and I need more".
