David Prutton's Saints future is in limbo after the club turned down an offer from Hull City for him.
Saints boss George Burley has confirmed that he rejected an offer from Prutton's hometown club - believed to be in the region of £200,000-£250,000.
Burley then spoke to Prutton - who is today being linked with a move to Premiership strugglers Watford - and the midfielder said he just wants regular first team football - something he is not getting at Saints with just one first team start this season to his name.
That all means his future is up in the air.
But Burley admitted if Prutton, who is out of contract in the summer, wants a move this month it will be hard to stand in his way.
He said: "We had an offer from Hull which we turned down.
"I spoke to David and he's committed to the club but naturally wants first team football.
"At the moment he's not a first team regular in the starting XI and it's a case of looking at it from there.
"If somebody wants to play regular, you've got to look at it".
