Rickie Lambert could be forced to miss tomorrow’s penultimate game of the season at Swansea through injury.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino this morning confirmed that Lambert will not be fit to start the match at the Liberty Stadium after picking up a knock on his gluteus maximus.
The injury is not hugely serious but Saints will assess whether their big striker can potentially take a place on the bench or will be forced to miss out altogether.
“He had a knock on his gluteus maximus last week and we need to evaluate whether he will be to take part or not,” said Pochettino.
Lambert’s injury is likely to mean another chance to impress for youngster Sam Gallagher, while Morgan Schneiderlin remains touch and go to be ready.
“Morgan could make a return. He’s been training well throughout the week but we still need to assess him,” reported Pochettino.
“The players who are definitely out are Gaston Ramirez, Maya Yoshida, Kelvin Davis and Jay Rodriguez.
“We also have a doubt about Rickie Lambert and we need to assess him ahead of the game tomorrow.
“We will see maybe if he can come on as a sub or it may be better to not risk him and keep him on the bench.”
