Mauricio Pochettino believes that both Ashley Cole and Luke Shaw could get a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup.
The pair are said to be going head-to-head for the role of left back understudy to Leighton Baines.
However, Pochettino believes that Shaw’s attacking qualities mean there could yet be room for all three to be included.
“I think we know for a fact that Luke Shaw is our player. We know him very well, I know him very well, I know of his quality, I know of his potential, I know how good he can be,” reflected Pochettino.
“I think he’s a different type of player to Ashley Cole.
“I think Roy Hodgson wants to have different players in every single position and it would be comparable to have both players going to the World Cup.
“I think in terms of Luke Shaw he can play throughout the entire wing and he can attack and he can defend very well.
“I think overall he is a different kind of player to Ashley Cole.”
Shaw was named in the PFA Team of the Year along with teammate Adam Lallana.
A delighted Pochettino said: “We are very happy about it and want to congratulate the two of them. We are delighted for them.
“We are just very happy about it.”
