Romsey squash team had two reasons to celebrate this week.

A fantastic year of matches ended in victory as they won division six of the Hampshire Squash League, and a sponsor arrived in the form of the newly launched New Forest Camper Van Hire, writes Emily Damment The team, who play in the squash ladder at Romsey Leisure Centre, overcame tough battles with Winchester and Abshot to secure their promotion to Division 5 in next year’s league.

Steve Damment, captain of the team, commended their dedication.

“There was great commitment from the team this year and it’s paid off,” he said. “We were neck and neck with Abshot for a while, at one point it looked like they might beat us, but we managed to pull ahead. ”

New Forest Camper Van Hire provided the team with a new kit emblazoned with its logo.

The company, recently launched by James Curtis, who is a member of the winning squash team, and his partner Jules Geary, offers VW T5 camper vans for hire from it’s base in Romsey.

Jules explained the idea behind the company: “We used to own a VW and unfortunately had to sell it. We loved it and later tried to hire one for a long weekend. We thought it would be a relatively easy task, and soon realized a huge gap in the market for VW T5’s to hire.

She added: “James has always loved squash and has played for many years at the Romsey squash club. New Forest Camper Van Hire is based in Romsey, and so we are honoured to be the main sponsor for the squash league team, and to be supporting our local community.”
