Ronald Koeman has revealed that Artur Boruc wants to leave Saints, and that the club are willing to move him on before the transfer window closes.
The keeper has informed the manager that he is keen to depart St Mary’s, having lost his position in the team following the £10m arrival of Fraser Forster from Celtic.
Koeman explained that he understands Boruc’s position and that he believes it will be best for both parties if he can find a new club.
He added that the 34-year-old Polish international will not be involved with the team while the window remains open.
“He’s training like he did before, that’s no problem,” said the Saints boss.
“I spoke to him. I said ‘ok, I know you would like to move.’ That’s normal after the decision that has been made in his position, and until the deadline he will not be on the team.
“If he stays, ok, then it will be a new situation and we will think about it.
“When he moves, I think that is the best for Artur and the best for the club.”
Koeman insisted he was not upset at Boruc’s desire to move.
“No, I’m not frustrated,” he said. “I think it’s a normal situation that he believes in himself.
“He has to think of the Polish national team, and to be part of that he has to play, and that’s a normal situation.
“I can understand that, because I like players who will do everything to play.”
Koeman would not be drawn on a possible move for Tottenham winger Andros Townsend, but he did reaffirm there was no way Morgan Schneiderlin would move in the opposite direction, saying it wouldn’t matter even if Spurs vastly improved their £12m bid for the midfielder.
“It doesn’t depend on the offer, because he will stay in Southampton,” he said.
