AFC TOTTON’S new executive club is up and running and ready to welcome local rivals Sholing on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

Since concluding the sale of their Testwood Stadium home to AFC Totton Leisure Limited, the Stags have wasted no time wiping out their debts and raising the profile of the club.

Prior to Tuesday’s home game against Swindon Supermarine, supporters were able to enjoy food and drink in the Pete Chilcott Suite in the main stand and then watch on in amazement as Totton swept into a 5-0 half-time lead against the shellshocked Wiltshire visitors.

They went on to celebrate a memorable 6-1 victory, making it nine points gained from their first four matches on their return to the Southern One South & West.

Today they made it 12 points out of 15, coming back from behind for a 2-1 win at Evesham United with on-song striker Craig Feeney bagging both goals.

With former Southampton kitman Woggy Taylor managing things behind the executive club bar, Totton’s matchday hospitality set-up is similar to the old days at Eastleigh when the St Mary’s legend carried out similar duties there.

And with ex-Spitfires director Steve Brookwell forming one half of new ground owners, alongside successful local businessman Peter Harding, there is a feeling in the air that the dark days of debt and despair are a thing of the past and the club can look forward to an exciting, new future.

Although Harding and Brookwell are currently just ground owners, the duo have indicated that they would be prepared to get involved with the club if asked.

Chairman Andy Straker said: “Peter and Steve have said that if we want to talk to them about inviting them in then they’re happy to do that.

“They’re both trying to assist us because they want to see a successful team playing out of the stadium they own.

“Steve has been with Eastleigh in the past and knows how to run things.

“He’s trying to help us and that can only be a good thing for the club.

“Peter and Steve want AFC Totton to move foward and are helping the executive committee in any way they can to make sure this happens.”
