Fraser Forster admits that moving to Saints and fulfiling his Premier League ambitions “has been fantastic” after he kept his first clean sheet for the club in the 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
The England stopper, who recently moved to Saints from Celtic in a £10m deal, impressed against the Baggies and has become first choice stopper for manager Ronald Koeman, dislodging Artur Boruc.
The 26-year-old’s performance included a superb reaction save from striker Brown Ideye, after he’d turned captain Jose Fonte and went one-on-one with the stopper.
One of the positives from a fairly uninspiring match with Alan Irvine’s outfit was that the 6ft 7inch custodian’s net was not breached.
He said about his reaction save from Ideye: “I had to make the save but the defence were really good all game.
“We really limited West Brom’s opportunities.”
And Forster was pleased to tally the first Premier League point of the season, along with his clean sheet.
“We got off the mark and got the clean sheet,” he said.
“We threatened a little bit up front, we hit the post. There’s a little bit more to come from us.
“Obviously its early days, we’ve had a lot of new players coming in. Each game we’ll get better.
“It’s important to keep working hard.”
On the subject of his switch from the Scottish giants, he said: “Southampton has been fantastic for me.
“There’s a really good changing room of lads here. Everyone has helped me settle in.
“It’s good to be playing in the Premier League.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do.”
