Toby Alderweireld in action for Belgium during the World Cup
Saints boss Ronald Koeman is being linked with a move for Belgium international defender Toby Alderweireld.
The 25-year-old centre back started his career at Koeman’s former club Ajax Amsterdam prior to a £6.1m switch to Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2013.
Alderweireld, who played in all his country’s games in the Brazil World Cup, only managed 12 La Liga appearances for last season’s champions.
The player, who has been linked to Arsenal and Monaco, also made a late sub appearance in the Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.
Koeman, who has spent almost £50m since taking over as Saints boss in mid June, has also been again linked with his former Feyenoord midfield playmaker Jordy Clasie.
