Winchester’s Laura Fenwick produced two excellent performances in the British Triathlon Junior Super Series.
As a result she has finished in the top 10 for the third year in a row.
At the British Triathlon Championships in Liverpool Fenwick recorded her highest ever national championship finish with a 10th place.
She then finished as the eighth British athlete in the Junior European Cup in Nottingham.
These results combined to place her ninth overall in the British Junior Elite Super Series.
“It was my aim to get in the top ten again,” said Fenwick. “But I knew it was going to be tough as the competition this year has been a lot stronger than in previous seasons.
“I’m really pleased to have ended ninth and to have produced two of my best ever performances in my last two races as a junior.”
The race in Liverpool was one of the most challenging Fenwick has ever experienced. Not only did the athletes have to contend with hundreds of jellyfish during the swim phase, they then had to cycle through pouring rain and gale force winds.
Despite the conditions, Fenwick swam well and found herself in a good group on the bike with all athletes working well together throughout the four lap, 20 km ride.
Fenwick moved clear of the others in the group on the run, clocking a personal best for the 5 km distance and finishing 10th in the junior field.
The final event of the series, the ETU European Junior Cup in Nottingham, was a great way for Fenwick to end her junior career as she recorded her quickest ever overall time.
The former Peter Symonds student is currently reading Chemistry at Oxford University, but still receives her coaching from Stewart Crowe, head coach of Fareham Nomads Swimming Club, and David Vosser, middle distance coach at Winchester and District Athletics Club.
“I’d like to thank both my coaches for all their hard work,” said Fenwick.
“I’m particularly grateful to Fareham Nomads for allowing me the flexibility to train for triathlon within their squad set up.
“I’m also very grateful to everyone who has supported me financially throughout my junior career.”
The Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme member finishes her season with two Olympic Distance (1,500m swim, 40km bike, 10km run) races in preparation for her move to the senior ranks next year.
