Saints boss Ronald Koeman says his side are gunning for the Capital One Cup trophy after advancing past Millwall.
Koeman fielded a strong side at The Den, as the club booked a place in the third round of the competition with a 2-0 win.
The Saints manager said thoughts of making wholesale changes to his team had never entered his mind.
“We like to win titles and I know for everybody it is not the most important one, but we go for it,” he said.
Koeman revealed how he had to have some strong words with his team at half-time, though.
“It was two different 45 minutes,” he said. “After the first 45 minutes, in half-time, I was very unhappy about the team, how we played. We didn’t control.
“Millwall played a fantastic 45 minutes, but we were very, very sloppy and not aggressive, not pressing.
“But we did it much better in the second half. We created a lot of possibilities.”
Koeman also pointed to the “spirit” brought into the team by Jack Cork, who was brought on at half-time for Victor Wanyama.
“Cork brings the spirit in the team after half-time and everything was much better,” he said.
Cork opened the scoring, with his first ever goal for the club, before summer signing Graziano Pelle got his own Saints career up and running with his opening strike for the team in added time.
“He was important in the second half,” said Koeman. “You see if we play a little bit more up, with more players around him, he’s a good striker, and he deserved to score.”
Koeman also praised Matt Targett, who produced an impressive debut at left-back.
“I heard that Gareth Bale made his debut in Millwall, Luke Shaw made his debut against Millwall, and if Matthew will have the same career of both players he will be very happy,” he said.
