AFC Totton strike ace Craig Feeney heads into tomorrow’s FA Cup preliminary round tie at home to Gillingham Town in sparkling form.

The former Totton & Eling and Blackfield & Langley hot-shot tops the Southern One South & West scoring charts with eight goals – six of them in the last three games.

He scored both in Monday’s 2-1 derby day victory over ten-man Sholing, adding to braces against Evesham and Swindon Supermarine.

And his unerring eye for goal is one of the main reasons why the soaraway Stags are sitting top of the Southern One South & West.

“Craig’s got a lot of confidence at the minute. He’s a predator,” said manager Steve Riley.

“We’ve done a bit with him in training, working on his finishing, and Craig analyses his game and wants to improve all the time.

“His balance and the way he puts his body over the ball is good and he’s hitting the target.

“It’s great to have him in the side.”

Tomorrow’s visitors Gillingham beat Almondsbury UWE 4-1 in the extra preliminary round spurred on by Benjani Ben Salem’s hat-trick.

But the Gills have had a poor start to the Toolstation Western Premier season and currently sit third to bottom with three points from five games.

The winners tomorrow will entertain either Swindon Supermarine or Hallen in the first qualifying round.

Reporting a clean bill of health for his thriving Totton side, manager Steve Riley said: “We’ll need to be at our best again to get through, but six points out of six over the bank holiday is great stuff.”
