Teenager Jamie White scored a sensational solo to give Saints reserves victory against south-coast rivals Brighton last night.
The Harefield striker netted the winner on the hour after cutting in from the right and evading three challenges before finding the top right corner with his left foot from the edge of the penalty area.
White, a former pupil at Woodlands Community School, started alongside first-half goalscorer Cedric Baseya before switching to the right flank at half time to give Adam Lallana the chance to play just off the big Frenchman.
His latest goal was another example of his precocious qualities and proved to be the winner as Brighton striker Nathan Elder was left unmarked to reduce the arrears shortly afterwards.
Elder headed a 63rd-minute corner past Bartosz Bialkowski but Saints never looked like throwing away a two-goal lead as they recorded their seventh successive Pontins Holiday Combination League win of the season.
Baseya had given his side an early lead when he met Lallana's right-flank cross in the six-yard box.
But he could easily have had a first-half hat-trick.
He was twice denied by keeper John Sullivan and twice missed the target when he should have done better, following good work on both occasions from Simon Gillett.
Sullivan also denied David Prutton but a Saints defence well marshalled by the excellent Lloyd James ensured that Brighton did not threaten Bialkowski.
Swedish trialist Kabbah Zamura missed a chance to equalise in the 17th minute, when he failed to make the most of an excellent left flank cross from Alex Frutos and fluffed two attempts on the edge of the six-yard box.
But Saints were otherwise comfortable for their win - although coach Stewart Henderson was not entirely happy with the performance of his side.
And he refused to blame a first reserve league fixture in two months for a lacklustre performance, especially in the second half.
The former Brighton defender said: "Overall we created more chances but one or two of the boys looked a bit rusty.
"Cedric Baseya could have had four goals of his own at half time but we didn't pass the ball as well as normal and we gave the ball away too cheaply which was disappointing.
"One or two of them have been out of form but some have played youth team games and some first team games so I can't put it down to lack of reserve team fixtures.
"We were more careless than rusty,we didn't pass the ball from A to B as often as we should have done but we scored two excellent goals.
It was a good header from Cedric and Jamie showed what he's capable of".
