SAINTS midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin and teammate Dusan Tadic faced off against each other for their respective national sides tonight.
Schneiderlin, who made his first competitive start for France against Ecuador at this summer’s World Cup, was in the starting line-up against Tadic’s Serbia in Belgrade that finished 1-1.
France took the lead on 13 minutes when Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba turned home a corner taken by Newcastle midfielder Remy Cabella. However, Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov fired in an 80th minute leveller.
Elsewhere, there were a number of Saints on duty for their national sides in important Euro 2016 qualifiers.
Steven Davis played the full 90 minutes as Northern Ireland recorded their first away win for four years with a 2-1 victory over Hungary in Újpest.
The hosts took the lead on 75 minutes through substitute Tamas Priskin, but Michael O’Neill’s side battled back and equalised when Aberdeen’s Niall McGinn tapped in from close range.
However, Northern Ireland weren’t finished there and they piled forward in the closing stages.
In the 88th minute McGinn squared for Norwich striker Kyle Lafferty to fire in a deserved winner.
Saints striker Shane Long was a late substitute for the Republic of Ireland as they picked up a crucial three points from a tricky clash away at Georgia in Tbilisi.
Everton forward Aidan McGeady gave Martin O’Neill’s side a 23rd minute lead, but the hosts levelled through Tornike Okriashvili’s 25-yard thunderbolt.
However, after Long had replaced Robbie Keane, McGeady curled in a fantastic 90th minute winner.
Out of favour Saints keeper Artur Boruc was on the bench as his Poland side hammered Gibraltar 7-0.
