Duathlon: Southampton athlete Ant Gritton pulled off a third place at the British Duathlon Age-Group Championships.
The running coach had only ever competed in a few duathlons before, having primarily been involved in running and triathlon, and so went into the event in Buckinghamshire hoping for the best.
Gritton produced a stunning race and took third place in the 25-29 age category.
He blitzed around the first 10k run in 33.58, before nailing a 40k bike in 1.02.07 and then rounding it off with a 5k run in 17.39.
It gave Gritton a total time of 1.54.40, which was good enough for sixth place overall and third in his age group.
There was a good result in the same race for Winchester and District AC’s Alan Murchison, whose time of 1.58.02 gave him second place in the first veteran’s category.
