Fareham’s newly promoted ladies team wrote a fresh chapter in their history when they beat Southampton 4-1 at Henry Cort.
It was the first time in over 25 years they had beaten the city girls – the win lifting them into a comfortable mid-table slot in South Women’s League Division 3B.
Fareham snatched a fourth minute lead through Jo Madeley but, after both sides had moved the ball around nicely, Southampton drew level through Ellie Streather, teenage daughter of Fawley cricket veteran Dave Streather.
But by half-time, Fareham were back in front – Hannah Oldham lashing home a shot from the edge of the D.
A third goal – a fierce strike by Hannah Nicholls, which Bex Close deflected home – gave Fareham a 3-1 lead, which Emma Jones extended late on.
Trojans, who lost their South League position to Fareham at the end of last season, romped to a third straight Hampshire League win, beating Haslemere 4-0 at Stoneham Lane.
Natasha Thompson (2), Nyssa Cole and Megan Steel scored for Trojans.
Two late goals sent Romsey slithering to an unfortunate 3-1 defeat at Yateley, where an equalising strike by Katie Pake looked as though it might be enough to earn the visitors a point.
Winchester ran amok, beating Alton 8-1.
