Dusan Tadic today became only the sixth player in Premier League history to assist four goals in a match, and he spoke of his joy afterwards.
The Serbian playmaker not only laid on half of Saints efforts in the record-setting 8-0 win over Sunderland, he also scored one.
Dennis Bergkamp, Jose Antonio Reyes, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor and Santi Cazorla are the only other players to contribute four assists in a single Premier League game.
Afterwards, Tadic said: “I have a couple of games when I make a lot of assists and my team win. I think in Twente and Groningen one game we win with six, seven goals difference.
“I think we enjoyed to play, but also we don’t want to stop and we want to keep the ball and score more goals and keep a clean sheet. You never can be relaxed. We tried to push and in the end we scored a lot of goals.”
Tadic scored his first Premier League goal for the club, after being presented with a mis-hit clearance by Sunderland keeper Vito Mannone and sending the ball back past him, into the far corner, to make it 6-0 in the second half.
“Yes, I am really happy because of that because I think last game against QPR at home I have a lot of chances and the ball doesn’t go in and I was a little bit disappointed, but it’s not everything about goals and assists,” he said.
“I think was the win of all Southampton and when we play good as a team it is more easy for us.
“Every game in Premier League is really difficult and you have to be always focused.”
