Paul Telfer, who played for Saints between 2001 and 2005, celebrates his 43rd birthday today.
A versatile midfielder who could also play right-back, he was brought to the club by Gordon Strachan, and racked up 148 appearances for Saints, scoring just one goal.
He left Saints to join Strachan at Celtic, but his family were unable to settle away from Hampshire and he retired.
The former Scottish international then changed his mind and joined AFC Bournemouth, generously ripping up his contract when he suffered a mid-season calf injury so the then cash-strapped Cherries wouldn’t have to pay him while he wasn’t playing.
He continued playing non-league football into his 40s – turning out for Paul Doswell’s Sutton United – and earlier this year joined North American Soccer League side Indy Eleven as assistant coach.
Jermaine Wright celebrates his 39th birthday today.
Wright was brought to St Mary’s by his former Ipswich boss George Burley initially on loan in early February 2006, then permanently the following summer.
The midfielder was quickly made captain in place of the injued Claus Lundekvam and played most of the 2006-7 season that ended in play-off defeat.
In all, he made 100 appearances for Saints and scored five goals.
He left Saints in 2008 to join Blackpool, and wound down his career in non-league football.
