FORMER Saints enjoyed a mixed night in the Champions League last night.
Dejan Lovren endured another torrid time in the heart of the Liverpool defence as his side were torn apart by Real Madrid at Anfield.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s superb first-time finish put the Spanish side 1-0 up after 23 minutes and a double strike from Frenchman Karim Benzema made it 3-0 by the break.
Former Saint Adam Lallana came on at half-time for Mario Balotelli, but he was unable to inspire any sort of fight back from Liverpool and, indeed, it was Real who should have added to their tally with Ronaldo missing a regulation chance.
It looked like being an equally miserable night for ex-Saints Calum Chambers and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as their Arsenal side were 1-0 down with just minutes to play at Belgian side Anderlecht in their Group D clash.
However, in a remarkable turnaround, Kieran Gibbs netted an 89th minute equaliser and sub Lukas Podolski smashed in a winner for the gunners just a minute later.
