Alan Pardew won the battle of the former Saints bosses at White Hart Lane yesterday as his Newcastle side came from behind to defeat Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham 2-1.
Bouncing around the bottom three after a bruising start to the campaign and with Pardew, pictured below, the favourite to be the next Premier League manager to be sacked, it had looked like the Magpies would struggle in north London.
However, Emmanuel Adebayor’s header was wiped out by sub Sammy Ameobi seconds after the restart, before fellow substitute Remy Cabella set-up Ayoze Perez to secure Newcastle an unlikely 2-1 win.
The result was a timely shot in the arm for under-fire Pardew, who built on his side’s maiden win against Leicester last week with a first away victory for seven months.
