West Brom captain Curtis Davies sees veteran striker Kevin Phillips as a "shining example" for the young players at his club.
Former Saints star Phillips stepped down into the Championship when he left Aston Villa last summer after an injury-hit 12 months.
But the 33-year-old scored his 12th goal of the campaign in Sunday's 3-0 FA Cup fourth-round win at Wolves and is forging a potent partnership with ex-Pompey striker Diomansy Kamara, who was on target for the 15th time this campaign at the weekend.
Davies said: "Kevin is amazing. He has been known as a prolific goalscorer for many years and now he has come to us at the latter stage of his career and just works his nuts off for us.
''You expect some players who have come down a division to be 'luxury' players.
"But Kevin gets stuck in and works very hard for us - and when he doesn't score, he doesn't get enough credit for how hard he does work.
''He is a shining example for the young pros here. He has played at the top level; he has played for England.
"That's what we all aspire to, and I'm no different.
''To look at him now at 33, still running down the channels for us, I think 'I want to go on that long and see if I can still be running the channels the other end of the pitch at his age!'"
Davies also believes Kamara can achieve 25 to 30 goals for the Baggies by the end of the campaign if he maintains his current form.
He said: ''The Wolves centre-halves are good defenders - but with anything over the top, Kamara is going to get in there because he is so fast.
"They weren't ready for him, and he came up with another vital goal.
"
''He has got 15 goals, but I'm not satisfied! I want him to get more. I want him to end up with 25 or 30 goals.
"As long as he keeps running and working hard for the team, I don't care who scores the goals.
''But I want him to keep going the way he is, because it keeps his confidence up. He is capable of getting 25 to 30 this season.
''With the chances he gets created for him, if he converts half of them he is going to score at least 25 to 30 goals".
Phillips and Kamara face Saints at The Hawthorns on Saturday week, February 10.
Tonight, though, they host Plymouth with keeper Dean Kiely expected to make his debut after signing from Portsmouth.
Kiely had been on loan to Luton - he made his Hatters debut in a 2-1 loss at St Mary's in December.
