Victor Wanyama believes Saints are starting to see his best form, after he produced another superb display for the team in the win against Leicester.
The midfielder was a dynamic and destructive presence at St Mary’s, with his impressive performance coming on the back of what might have been his finest yet for the club, in the 1-0 victory at Hull a week earlier.
Wanyama, who set up Shane Long for the second goal with a brilliant, lofted through-pass, said: “I think now I know the league better, I’m getting better.
“I’m working hard in training and I think it’s getting better and better every game.
“I’m really enjoying it and I try to do my best. I’m really enjoying winning as well.”
The Kenyan, who has three goals to his name this season, is confident Saints have the ability to maintain their lofty league position, having kept hold of second place heading into the international break.
“We are working hard and I think hard work pays off, so we just need to continue the same,” he said.
“I think if we continue the same mentality then we can be there.
“It feels good to win at home here. It was a difficult game, so we are happy.”
Wanyama also had praise for Long, as the forward came off the bench to score his first Premier League goals for the club and settle the match.
Describing the second strike, Wanyama said: “I just turned and looked up and saw Long making a run, then I just put the ball over the top, so it was a good assist.
“He came in and he changed the game, so it was really important for us to get somebody come in and just get us a goal.
“He gave us the first goal, which took the pressure off our shoulders, so we are really happy.”
