Ronald Koeman has confirmed that Saints have opened contract talks with Nathaniel Clyne and insisted he is not worried about reports that several clubs are lining up a bid for the right back.
Clyne has been the best player in his position in the Premier League this season, and has won his first two England caps as a result.
His contract expires in little more than 18 months and there is inevitably a host of big clubs linked with a potential move for him, the latest being Monday’s opponents Manchester United.
Saints will want to fend off such interest and Koeman confirmed the club have started discussions with Clyne.
He said: “The club is in talks with Clyney about a new contract.”
However, when asked if there were any updates on progress he added: “No.”
Koeman though did admit to being relaxed about all the speculation surrounding the 23-year-old.
“If I have to be worried about those kind of rumours then I will be worried every day and I don’t like that,” he smiled. “I like my life and I like to be positive and it’s no issue.”
