TWO goals in as many minutes gave Saints back-to-back away wins for the first time this season at Luton.
Strikes in the last two minutes of the first half from Jhon Viafara and Marek Saganowski, his eighth in eight games, sealed the three points at Kenilworth Road.
Though it was fairly comfortable against the Championship's rock bottom side, on a tricky pitch Saints had to put in the hard graft to get the result.
"We walked out on the pitch before the game and you realised it's not going to be conducive for passing and movement," said boss George Burley.
"And we had to battle.
"Small grounds like Colchester and Southend we didn't do that well (at) earlier in the season but we did here, battled away and got our noses in front.
"The only danger was set-plays. They worked hard and had big lads.
"We were pleased to get another away win.
"Everybody played their part. We've had to work hard to get back near that top six which we're doing.
"There are still five games left and a very difficult game coming up against Sunderland.
"But the spirit was great and the fans appreciated that".
Chris Baird and Claus Lundekvam could come back into contention for today's game.
Baird was sidelined at the weekend with a virus while fellow defender Lundkevam was not risked after only two days back in training following his pelvis injury.
Burley only made one change, therefore, to the starting XI which had won 6-0 at Wolves - Gareth Bale coming back in place of Alexander Ostlund, who was on the bench.
l Saints are advising fans to collect or purchase their tickets for today's game as early as possible. The ticket office opens at 9am and long queues are expected in the build-up to the game.
