Grzegorz Rasiak will be called upon to save Saints' season after in-form Marek Saganowski was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.
Troyes loanee Saganowksi, who has belted ten goals in his last ten games, appears to have torn a groin muscle and will not be available again this season - unless they make the play-offs.
Ahead of a vital clash with Leeds at St Mary's on Saturday, Saints boss George Burley also delivered the news that Gareth Bale is only "touch and go" to figure again this campaign after the tear in his calf muscle failed to settle as hoped.
Saganowski's ill-timed absence is likely to mean a recall for fellow Polish international Rasiak, the man who has scored 20 lague and cup goals this season but who has started just two of Saints' last 11 matches.
Burley said: "Marek has been absolutely terrific for us.
"I brought him here on loan and he's shown what he can do, he''s grown in stature and his goalscoring record has been phenomenal.
"But we've got experience there that can come in.
"There's no doubt we've been very unlucky this season with injuries - sometimes that luck goes with you and sometimes it doesn't.
"It doesn't detract from the fact we're still there and have plenty to play for with three games left. We've got to win them all".
