SAINT George's Day celebrations started two days early at St Mary's on Saturday.
A late goal from sub Bradley Wright-Phillips sent boss George Burley and the majority of a bumper 29,000 attendance into raptures.
With two games to go, Saints' promotion dream remains alive - thanks to Wright-Phillips' 84th-minute decider against Dennis Wise's 10-man visitors.
Injury ravaged Saints had to fight hard against a dogged Leeds side, reduced to ten men on 33 minutes when Alan Thompson was sent off.
But they battled away and got the three points that puts them in a group of seven teams battling for three play-off spots - Derby having already assured themselves of a top six spot.
Burley said: "It's never easy when there are two banks of four with one up and they don't move.
"Leeds are fighting for their lives, they were scrapping and defending in numbers.
"We had opportunities and needed to take one - thankfully we did.
"You've got to keep believing and working hard.
"I said before the game that we weren't going to win it in the first five or six minutes.
"We were going to have to go for 90 minutes and be patient and disciplined and, when the chances come, to take them.
"We had six first teamers out which, at this stage of the season is not ideal, but that's the way it is.
"We had our three full backs, Gareth Bale, Chris Makin and Alexander Ostlund, and Jermaine Wright, who can fill in there, all injured.
"People like Marek Saganowski were out as well.
"The players who came in worked hard and did the club proud.
"The remaining games are definitely going to be like this".
