George Burley is hoping to strike the right attacking balance ahead of Saints crucial trip to Norwich at the weekend.

With Saints needing two more wins from their final two games to give themselves a great chance of grabbing a play-off place, Burley has recalled David McGoldrick from his loan spell at Bournemouth.

The absence of the injured Marek Saganowski left Saints struggling for goals against Leeds last weekend.

While Grzegorz Rasiak (20) and Kenwyne Jones (14) are Saints' two leading scorers this season, they have struggled as a pair.

That has given Burley food for thought.

He said: "Marek is a big blow. We've got some good strikers but no doubt he gave us more of a balance up front.

"With the pressure we had against Leeds and all the play we had, we struggled a little bit scoring goals.

"When Marek has been in the team, he's given us that bit of balance by accepting it to feet.

"Grzegorz and Kenwyne are good players in their own right but we still need that balance, so we've decided to recall David McGoldrick.

"He's done well at Bournemouth and he'll give us that other option up front.

McGoldrick has scored six times for the Cherries in 12 League One games and is recalled with Saganowski (groin), Gareth Bale (calf), Chris Makin (back), Darren Powell (knee) and Jermaine Wright (hernia) all on the treatment table.
