GARETH Bale could make a shock return to aid Saints' promotion play-off chances.
George Burley last night told the Daily Echo that the Welsh international starlet is in line to be added to the squad for the trip to Norwich this weekend.
And Saints could also be boosted by the return of another full-back, Alexander Ostlund, for the trek to Carrow Road.
Both Bale and Ostlund have both made quicker than expected progress from injuries.
And, if they come through training today, could both travel to Norwich.
The news has come as a major lift for Saints who had no recognised left back for last week's 1-0 win over Leeds, Rudi Skacel deputising.
Burley also had to move Chris Baird from centre half to right back to cover for the absence of Ostlund, Chris Makin and Jermaine Wright.
Burley said: "Alexander Ostlund and Gareth Bale are progressing."
