Saints fan Mark Heathorn has emailed this letter to the Daily Echo this morning.
Brave or foolish to let Leon Best take the penalty?
Foolish in hindsight, but he should be praised for his bottle.
He didn't have his greatest game, offside far too often, but he will improve.
As gutted as I am, and at the moment it feels worse than relegation, we should be proud to be Saints fans today, because the way we took the game to a one trick pony' team was very impressive.
We have played the best flowing football of all the teams in the Championship this season, and should be going up on that basis.
But there is another aspect to the game, the times when we don't have possession! This has cost us.
We have to spend the money we get for Bale (anything less than 10 million is wrong) on securing Saganowski, and building a team around him.
The basis is there in a young talented squad.
I hope for the sake of football that WBA get through and beat Derby at Wembley because Derby do not play very good football.
They are very much stop first and hoof the ball to Howard.
Wow, that's exciting.
They scored two headers against shortish defenders (and arguably keeping errors), a penalty, and an OG!!
Our goals all had an element of skill and class, and came from the feet!
We should all be pleased to support a team that plays the game the right way, and despite our massive disappointment today, can look forward to the new season - as long as Burley stays and we can just cut out the errors!!
Exciting times are not too far away!
Keep the faith!!
Mark Heathorn.
