SAINTS youngsters James Ward-Prowse, Matt Targett and Jack Stephens all started as England Under-21s drew 0-0 away to Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Stephens, who is currently on a season loan at Middlesbrough, made his competitive debut in the match, but it ended badly for the centre-back who was sent-off for two yellow cards.

Despite losing Stephens, Gareth Southgate’s side were able to see out the game and maintain their unbeaten start to the Under-21 European Championship qualifiers and take top spot in Group 9.

Ward-Prowse, the captain of the side, and Targett played the full 90 minutes, with the former having one of the best chances in the game in the opening minutes.

A save by Bosnia goalkeeper Kenan Piric denied the midfielder in the end.

Former Saints academy player Calum Chamber also played the full game.

The Young Lions will continue their bid to reach the finals in Poland against Switzerland at Brighton’s American Express Community Stadium on Monday.
