LAWRIE McMENEMY has been to many season finales but he's trying very hard to remember one with so much anticipation and excitement that finished with such a massive letdown for fans, management and players.
"Anybody fortunate enough to be at the last three games - Southend and the two Derby games - will be able to talk about them for years to come," says Lawrie in his exclusive Daily Echo column today.
"Apparently the TV people described the final game as one of the best ever televised - not I hasten to add for wonderful one-touch football.
"It wasn't an evening necessarily for all that but it had bits of that, coupled with passion, wholeheartedness, 100 per cent effort - and that was just on the terraces.
"The players reacted and how cruel that we should win a game away from home 3-2 and not go through."
