FORMER Saints star Dejan Lovren completed an incredible Europa League comeback for new club Liverpool by netting an injury-time winner against Borussia Dortmund.

The Croatian defender left many Saints fans feeling bitter when he left St Mary’s for Anfield for £20million and said: “After I played at Anfield last season I said to myself ‘One day I hope I’ll be able to play here for Liverpool’.”

Last summer Southampton fans launched a Twitter campaign to vote Lovren, who struggled during the campaign, as Liverpool’s player of the season.

But with last night’s tie poised at 1-1 going into the second leg at Anfield, Dortmund appeared to have taken a giant step towards the semi-finals when Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored inside 10 minutes.

Divock Origi pulled one back just after half-time but Marco Reus made it 3-1 in the 57th minute, leaving Liverpool needing three goals for the most unlikely of victories.

Philippe Coutinho's effort did not look too significant until Mamadou Sakho levelled the scores on the night with 12 minutes remaining.

And it was his centre-back partner Lovren who finished the job, heading in in the first minute of time added on to spark scenes of jubilation at Anfield.
