Saints had some very bright spells during this match, but squandered every half chance they got.
For all their creativity, the lack of cutting edge upfront may have cost them tonight – albeit against a United side brimming with top talent.

In the end, though, United’s quality shone through, meaning Saints come away empty handed from Old Trafford.

Claude Puel’s side must now look to Sunderland next weekend as a must-win to kick start this season.
