EASTLEIGH shot up to sixth in the Vanarama National League with another great show on the road this afternoon.
Four days after holding second-placed Forest Green Rovers to a 1-1 draw in Gloucestershire, the Spitfires ended Macclesfield Town’s three-match winning streak with a 1-0 victory at Moss Rose.
Eastleigh, who recalled Jai Reason to the starting line-up in place of the injured Andy Drury, gave as good as they got in the first half but survived a scare when Macclesfield’s Danny Whittaker blazed a clear 38th-minute chance over.
The breakthrough came five minutes after the interval when Luke Coulson drove the ball low to the keeper’s right after some neat build-up play by Michael Green.
Constable was inches away from doubling Eastleigh’s lead from Reason’s 64th-minute by-line pull-back but couldn’t quite connect, and Mikael Mandron flashed an effort wide in the closing stages.
It mattered not, as Ronnie Moore’s men extended their unbeaten run to seven games.
*On-loan Eastleigh youngster Jack Masterton plundered the winner as ex-Eastleigh boss Richard Hill led Whitehawk to 3-2 FA Cup win at East Thurrock United.
Former Spitfire Reece Connolly weighed in with two goals to be named man-of-the-match for the Hawks, who included Dan Harding and Paul Reid in their starting line-up. Fellow ex-Eastleigh man Glen Southam replaced goal hero Masterton with 15 minutes to go.
