Marek Saganowski completed his permanent move to Saints yesterday and hopes his goals will help fire the club into the Premiership.
Saints fought off interest from a host of clubs to tie up the signing of the Polish striker on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £680,000.
Saints had already agreed a fee for the 28 year-old - who scored 10 goals in 13 games while on loan at St Mary's at the end of last season - with his former club, French second division Troyes, and exercised their option to make the loan deal permanent.
And after coming close to firing Saints to promotion last season, Saganowski, said: "We hope to reach the Premiership next season.
"Last time we were close to promotion or reaching the final but lost on penalties and we were not happy.
"People know what I can bring to the team. I can score many goals, I am a striker.
"And as a striker every time I go on the pitch I think I, and we, can score goals. I scored ten goals in 13 games and I wanted to score lots more this season.
"I hope if we play the same way as we did sometimes last season and if we keep the same team - and maybe can welcome two or three new faces - maybe we can play in the Premiership".
