Saints kicked off their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 4-2 win over Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium.

But the win came at a cost after goalkeeper Kelvin Davis and Spanish midfielder Inigo Idiakez picked up injuries that will rule them out of next week's two-game tour to Norway.

Davis damaged shoulder ligaments in a first half collision with Eastleigh striker Andy Forbes and then Idiakez limped off early in the second half with a hamstring injury.

Burley gave 45 minutes to each available member of his first team - including a first half debut to winger Adam Hammill, who is on a season-long loan from Liverpool, and second half run outs to his two trialists, Hungarian centre-back Tamas Vasko and left-back Gregory Vignal.

Kenwyne Jones missed the game with a slight calf strain while Claus Lundekvam also sat out the game as he continues his recovery from his ankle injury.

By the time Poke, who will now be the only goalkeeper on the Norway tour, replaced Davis in goal Saints had already recovered from conceding an early goal to their neighbours from the Blue Square Conference South and led 2-1.

Eastleigh new-boy Damian Scannell gave the home side a fourth minute lead when he took advantage of a bit of pre-season rustiness in the Saints backline to fire home from six yards.

David McGoldrick got on the end of a flowing move down the Saints left to level on 13 minutes then Hammill marked his debut by with a goal, bringing a goalmouth scramble to an end by forcing the ball home from close range.

Mario Licka converted Gregorz Rasiak's knockdown to make it 3-1 five minutes before the break before Forbes dusted himself down to dispatch a penalty to Poke's left after Darren Powell was adjudged to have brought the Eastleigh striker down on the stroke of half-time.

Burley changed all 10 outfield players at the break but it didn't disrupt the flow as Nathan Dyer crossed for Bradley Wright-Phillips to head home just 14 seconds into the second half.

Marek Saganowski and Wright-Phillips came close to adding to the score but a series of fine saves from Eastleigh keeper Jamie Pullen kept Saints at bay.
