SAINTS youngster Sam Gallagher has joined Birmingham City on a season-long loan.
The 21-year-old links up with the Championship club for the season having recently signed a new four year contract at St Mary's.
Gallagher spent last term on loan with Blackburn Rovers, where he scored 12 goals.
Vice chairman of football Les Reed said: “Sam is a player who gained invaluable experience at Championship level with Blackburn Rovers last season.
“He contributed an impressive 12 goals and we were also really pleased with the improvements to his all-round game during that time.
"He impressed Mauricio in pre-season and the manager has given Sam some targets to achieve on loan.
“He has many exciting years ahead of him here, after reinforcing his commitment to the club this summer with a new four-year contract.
"Sam and the club feel that regular game at Birmingham City, who have strong ambitions to be towards the top end of the Championship, will help him improve even further and we look forward to monitoring his progression.”
