Fraser Forster has been axed from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad.
The Saints keeper has been left out of the squad to play World Cup qualifying fixtures against Malta and Slovakia.
It will be a particularly bitter blow for Forster as Southgate has named four goalkeepers – Joe Hart, Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Tom Heaton – but he misses out.
Forster’s Saints teammate, Ryan Bertrand, has got the nod.
Nathan Redmond and James Ward-Prowse, who both won their first caps recently, also failed to get the nod this time round.
Other Saints players earning call-ups for the next round of international fixtures are Steven Davis, Dusan Tadic, Cedric Soares, Maya Yoshida, Sofiane Boufal, Shane Long and Wesley Hoedt.
